I am not a political person, but that seems to have changed recently. I, along with many Americans, have ignored political machinations for most of my life. I had no reason to disbelieve the stereotype that politicians are a self-serving, conniving, and distrustful group without the ability to empathize or resist the temptation of bags … Continue reading Politics and Ideas for Change

Welcome to my blog!
I live in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area) and have noticed a disturbing trend as of late: We don't have conversations anymore. Specifically, folks in the United States have become more eager to prove someone wrong than have an adult, mature discussion. Think about it: When was the last time you had a meaningful conversation with someone that didn't involve whipping out your smartphone and Googling statistics, news stories, or (*gasp*) a blog post that counters the other person's opinion?
We didn't always behave this way. Call me nostalgic, but I recall a time when people could disagree without being shamed on social media or be the victim of a crusading Social Justice Warrior. Hash tags have replaced reasoning and have permitted thousands of people to be passive-agressive. Instead of simply disagreeing with someone's stance, we now feel the need to "one up" them in the hopes of winning the Internet with a witty hash tag or link to to some echo chamber.
The purpose of this blog is to foster open discussion. I am not the smartest bloke in the room, nor will I claim to be an expert in any particular subject. My posts will be a collection of opinions, crafted from more than a few decades on this planet. I expect that some will disagree with my positions, and I respect their right to do so; that's what makes this country so unique, frustrating...and truly amazing.
Call me out if you think I'm off-base. Let's have a discussion. I will always be accountable for my words and thoughts - that's the crux of credibility when it comes to blogging, in my opinion. The key theme is that we need to be respectful of each other.
We all come from different backgrounds, cultures, and upbringings. I am in no position to demean someone for disagreeing with me - the most I can do is to appreciate their opinion. People can change their stance, attitudes, or opinions - that's the beauty of being human and growing as a person. Are you the same person you were 10-years ago? Doubtful. My hope is that, through this blog, I will be able to continually evolve and grow as a person; I need to remain humble with my eyes open, drinking in as much of humanity as possible and allowing others' ideas to be a driving force along my journey.
That stated, I again welcome you to my blog. Please sit and stay for a bit - I value your perspective!

Why I’m not a Fan of Professional Soccer
Sorry, soccer fans, but sitting on my ass for 90-minutes to watch a match end in a 1-0 score isn't going to get Mr. Bishop to purchase season tickets anytime soon. I'm not saying that soccer players aren't tremendous athletes - the amount of conditioning required to play the game is substantial. Elite soccer players, … Continue reading Why I’m not a Fan of Professional Soccer
